Green investments become an economic priority, PM Munteanu

The wealth of a nation is no longer measured solely by the natural resources it extracts, but by its ability to protect these resources and create value while using fewer of them. This message was conveyed by Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu at the Moldova Green Finance and Investment Forum.
According to the Prime Minister, while investors in the past focused exclusively on factory production, they are now also considering factors such as resource consumption, recycling rates, energy efficiency, and preparedness for future challenges.
"In just half a century, ecology has moved from the periphery of the public agenda to the center of economic policies. The Republic of Moldova recognizes this reality. The EU-Moldova investment conference, held a few weeks ago, demonstrated that our country inspires confidence and can attract significant resources for modernization and economic growth. For us, the green economy is not a separate project from European integration; it is an integral part of it", declared the Head of Government during the event on June 29.

The meeting focused on promoting green and sustainable investments and advancing the transition towards a more efficient, resilient, and environmentally friendly economy. Alexandru Munteanu highlighted that during the process of joining the European Union, environmental policies become strategically important.
"The economy of the future will not reward waste, but rather efficiency. We want the Republic of Moldova to be among the countries that excel in this competition. Therefore, for the Government, green investments are not just investments in the environment; they are investments in the future of our economy," the Prime Minister stated.

The first edition of the Moldova Green Finance and Investment Forum is a significant event aimed at mobilizing green and sustainable investments. The agenda includes high-level discussions, thematic panels, business case studies, and workshops tailored for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), financial institutions, and stakeholders engaged in applying green taxonomy.
The forum will host decision-makers, representatives from European institutions, international and local financial organizations, investors, and members of the banking and business communities. Notable guests include Jessika Roswall, the European Commissioner for the Environment, Water Resilience, and a Competitive Circular Economy, who will participate in discussions on European priorities related to nature-friendly investments and the circular economy.
As an annual platform, the forum is designed to align the Republic of Moldova's development priorities with available financial instruments and implementation capacity. This alignment aims to support the country’s conformity with European sustainability standards.
