Soroca gymnasium upgraded through European Village 2 program

This fall, the "Dumitru Matcovschi" Gymnasium in Soroca will welcome students and teachers back to a fully renovated school. This significant improvement comes after years of challenges in the educational process due to outdated infrastructure. Previously, classrooms were cold, damp, and moldy, forcing both students and teachers to dress warmly during winter classes.
The school is undergoing renovations, which are currently about 50% complete.
The work being done includes insulating the facade and completely repairing the roof. These improvements will significantly enhance both the building's appearance and the conditions for studying.
"At the moment, we are working on plastering, wall heating, and terracotta installations. We have finished pouring concrete around the school, and we are aiming to complete the project within the established deadlines," said worker Oleg Guțuleac in an interview with Moldova 1.

The teachers assert that the renovation was absolutely necessary. During the winter months, it was challenging to maintain a comfortable temperature in several classrooms, leading to the growth of dampness and mold in some areas. Additionally, the institution faced high heating costs each year.
"The winter was quite cold. Teachers and students had to dress warmly. There were times when the roofs in some classrooms leaked, resulting in mold. We hope that the situation improves."
"The educational process was difficult. However, we anticipate that the renovations will result in warmer classrooms and a more attractive appearance for the building. We hope this will attract a larger number of students."

Currently, 50% of the thermal insulation work at the "Dumitru Matcovschi" Gymnasium in Soroca has been completed, with the remainder ongoing. Valentina Nicic, the director of the gymnasium, stated, "This project is modernizing our institution and improving the quality of the educational process. Before this project, the classrooms were cold due to the unrepaired roof, which allowed humidity from the walls to seep in. This resulted in significant mold growth that negatively impacted the children's health."
Unfortunately, due to a lack of funds, two school annexes were not included in the current project. Viorica Furtună, a former director of the gymnasium, explained, "While the project value is quite substantial, we still need to address the two annexes, particularly the resource annex for inclusive education. To complete the thermal insulation of the entire building, we require an additional 2 million 400 thousand lei."
The total value of the project is approximately 6.6 million lei, funded by the National Fund for Regional and Local Development through the "European Village 2" program.
