Moldova forms national body to protect critical infrastructure

The Moldovan government approved the establishment of a permanent inter-institutional working group to safeguard critical infrastructure. The newly formed body will coordinate national efforts to identify, designate, and secure vital state facilities.

Previously, the Republic of Moldova lacked a centralized coordination mechanism in this sector. Responsibility remained fragmented across various agencies handling counter-terrorism and cybersecurity independently.

Internal Affairs Minister Daniella Misail-Nichitin confirmed the initiative introduces the country's first unified coordination system. The framework will establish a permanent technical secretariat under the National Center for Critical Infrastructure Protection.

A prime ministerial security advisor will head the new task force, known locally as GLIPIC. The platform aims to streamline institutional operations and provide direct decision-making support to the prime minister during emergencies.

The administrative task force will integrate representatives from various security agencies and the National Crisis Management Center. Institutional directors will formally appoint individual members through ministerial decrees.

The strategic decision follows a surge in sophisticated cyberattacks targeting Moldovan government networks over recent years. In response, Chisinau continues to accelerate systemic reforms to reinforce national resilience and emergency response protocols.
