Doina Gherman on US Independence Day: Partnership with Washington strengthens Moldova

Doina Gherman, the Vice President of Parliament, issued a message to mark the United States Independence Day. In her message, she emphasized that the strategic partnership with the USA plays a crucial role in promoting peace, development, and independence for the Republic of Moldova.

On July 4, we celebrate Independence Day in the United States of America, marking the 250th anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. This quarter-millennium reflects a deep commitment to fundamental values such as freedom and democracy. During this week's plenary session, Doina Gherman expressed her heartfelt congratulations and wishes for prosperity and well-being to the American people on behalf of the Parliament.

The official emphasized the significance of the relationship between the Republic of Moldova and the United States, highlighting the valuable role of this strategic partnership in Moldova's development.

"We are grateful to the American people for their support since 1992, which totals over $1.7 billion in assistance programs focused on economic development, infrastructure modernization, the energy sector, and the strengthening of democratic institutions. Dear American friends and partners, we wish you a joyful Independence Day filled with national pride. Happy Independence Day! God bless the United States of America!" stated the Vice President of Parliament.

Independence Day, celebrated on July 4, marks the adoption of the Declaration of Independence, ratified by Congress in 1776, when the thirteen American colonies declared their independence from Great Britain.

The United States is a key development partner for the Republic of Moldova, providing support for democratic reforms, energy security, economic development, and the strengthening of state institutions.

The United States Embassy in Chisinau was inaugurated in 1992 and serves as the primary diplomatic point of contact for the U.S. in Moldova. Meanwhile, the Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in the United States, located in Washington, D.C., opened in 1993 and plays a vital role in enhancing political and economic dialogue between the two countries.

To commemorate the 250th anniversary of U.S. independence and the celebration of Independence Day, the diplomatic mission in Chisinau organized a concert on July 3 at the Palace of the Republic, titled "Sounds of freedom: 250 years of American music."

This evening, the Arc de Triomphe and Chisinau City Hall will be illuminated in red, white, and blue, reflecting the colors of the American flag. The event will conclude with a fireworks display over the Arc de Triomphe at 9:30 p.m.
