Tour of Romania 2026 to make historic debut in Moldova

The Tour of Romania 2026 will achieve a historic milestone by launching its opening stages in the Republic of Moldova. This marks the first time in the competition's history that the race crosses the Prut River.
The international event begins on September 8, 2026, with the official team presentation in the capital city of Chisinau. This opening ceremony offers cycling fans an exclusive opportunity to meet the international teams and athletes.
The opening stage route
The official race will commence the following day, September 9, at 10:00, departing from the Maria Bieșu National Opera and Ballet Theatre Square. The peloton covers approximately 100 kilometers across the Ialoveni, Hâncești, Strășeni, and Călărași districts.
The inaugural stage concludes at the finish line in Ungheni. The event is organized in close partnership with the Moldovan Cycling Federation to ensure seamless logistical execution.
"Athletic excellence thrives on the energy of the crowd," stated Cătălin Sprînceană, President of the Romanian Cycling Federation. He encouraged communities along the route to welcome the international caravan.
Safety and schedule guidelines
Organizers advise spectators to arrive at their chosen viewing points 30 to 45 minutes prior to the estimated peloton arrival. This buffer helps fans secure safe spots and avoid regional traffic restrictions.
Following the Moldova stages, the race returns to Romania on September 10 for the Iași–Piatra Neamț leg. The subsequent routes include Piatra Neamț–Băile Balvanyos, Brașov–Ploiești, and the final circuit in Bucharest on September 13.
International broadcasters and official Tour of Romania digital platforms will stream the entire multi-stage race live.
