Man in Strășeni rushed to hospital after snake bite

A 57 year old man from the Strășeni district was rushed to the hospital after a snake bit his left hand while he was grazing livestock. The incident marks the sixth recorded snake bite case in Moldova since the start of the year.
After the bite, the man developed severe dizziness, and his left forearm swelled. His wife called 112, and a team from the Zubrești Emergency Medical Unit provided first aid.
He was then taken to the Strășeni District Hospital, where specialists examined and treated him.
Snake bites remain relatively rare in Moldova, according to the National Center for Prehospital Emergency Medical Care.
During the first half of 2026, authorities recorded six snake bite cases, compared with 11 in 2025, 19 in 2024, eight in 2023, 18 in 2022, and 14 in 2021.
As the warm season continues, the center urges people to stay cautious during outdoor activities, especially in areas with tall vegetation where snakes may be present.
If a snake bites someone, specialists advise calling 112 immediately, limiting the victim's movement, and keeping the affected limb still.
Doctors also warn against applying a tourniquet, cutting the wound, or trying to suck out the venom, as these actions can worsen the victim's condition.
