State Secretary of MFAEI: Moldova has fulfilled 40 percent of the conditions set by the European Commission
The Moldovan authorities have managed to fulfil 40 percent of the nine basic conditions set by the European Commission in the process of integration into the European Union. This is the statement made by the Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Vladimir Cuc, during the program "Paralela 47" on Radio Moldova. He noted that progress had been made in the reform of the justice system, the electoral system and in the prevention of organised crime.
State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Vladimir Cuc says the authorities have made progress in implementing the European Commission's recommendations.
"The intensity of our actions, of the authorities, is high. We, at the moment, have 40% of the actions implemented, about 40% are either at the very advanced or final stage and this percentage is already increasing. And we have around 20% of actions, out of those 60, not yet implemented or there is a need for a more consolidated effort. If you add these 40 to 40, you have, I would say, around 80%. We are well and we are on the final phase and 20 somewhere we still have to do," says Vladimir Cuc.
Vladimir Cuc spoke about the 9 conditions, put forward by the European Commission in its Opinion on Moldova's application for accession to the European Union. According to the official, the most visible progress has been made in the justice reform, as most of the actions have been carried out and the legislation has been approved according to plan. Another condition of the European Commission is the adjustment of the electoral legislation to the European one, which has been fully met.
According to the Secretary of State, the Republic of Moldova still has 15% of the commitments made to the European Commission on the adjustment of legislation on the prevention of organised crime to be fulfilled. Impressive achievements have also been recorded in the area of human rights protection and combating gender-based violence.
The Republic of Moldova has been granted the status of candidate country for accession to the European Union in June 2022. At that time, the European Commission recommended that our country meet nine basic conditions in order to start negotiations.
