Moldova will host Conference of Speakers of Parliaments in 2027

The Republic of Moldova will host the upcoming Conference of Speakers of Parliaments from countries that are candidates for European Union accession. This event is scheduled for the summer of 2027 and will bring together Parliament Speakers and representatives from specialised committees, groups, and parliamentary secretariats.
The announcement was made following the signing of a joint declaration by Igor Grosu, the President of the Parliament, along with his counterparts from EU candidate countries. This declaration establishes a permanent platform for dialogue, coordination, and inter-parliamentary cooperation.
The document was adopted at the inaugural Conference of Speakers of Parliaments of candidate countries seeking to join the European Union, held in Belgrade, Serbia, on July 7-8.
The declaration emphasizes the strategic importance of the European integration process for candidate countries and underscores the role of parliaments in promoting reforms, aligning legislation with European standards, exercising democratic oversight, and strengthening institutions.
The signatories reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the European path of candidate countries by implementing the acquis communautaire and continuing necessary reforms in accordance with the principles and standards of the European Union.
This new platform will facilitate the exchange of experiences and best practices among parliaments, organize regular consultations on matters related to EU accession, and enhance cooperation among the legislative institutions of candidate countries.
The Conference of Speakers of Parliaments of candidate countries seeking EU accession will be organized annually within this permanent dialogue framework.
