Moldovan life expectancy reaches 72.6 years as gender gap persists

Life expectancy in the Republic of Moldova continues to climb, according to the latest figures released by the National Bureau of Statistics.
Average life expectancy in the country reached 72 years and eight months last year. This marks an eight-month increase compared to 2024 levels.
Pronounced gender gap in longevity
Official data shows that women continue to live significantly longer than men, maintaining a gap of nearly nine years.
Life expectancy at birth stood at 77 years and two months for women, compared to 68 years and four months for men.
Behavioral factors behind the disparity
Public health specialists attribute this divergence primarily to lifestyle choices and health-seeking behaviors among men.
Demographic analysis indicates men are more likely to consume tobacco and alcohol, maintain less balanced diets, and avoid preventive medical checkups or treatment.
