Moldovan opposition boycotts presidential consultations

All opposition parties in Moldova have announced a total boycott of the formal presidential consultations aimed at designating a new prime minister. The move follows the resignation of former Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu on July 3.
The opposition groups describe the process initiated by President Maia Sandu as a "staged performance" rather than an authentic search for solutions. Critics argue that key decisions regarding the government are made internally within the ruling Action and Solidarity (PAS) party before official dialogues take place.
"The consultations are a mere formality," stated representatives of the 'Partidul Nostru' party. Other opposition factions, including the 'Mișcarea Alternativa Națională' and the Communist and Socialist parties, have also declined to participate, demanding early parliamentary elections instead.
President Sandu is scheduled to hold consultations throughout Friday and Saturday. The ruling PAS faction is expected to meet with the President on Saturday, July 11.
Current Deputy Prime Minister Eugeniu Osmochescu is serving as interim prime minister. Once a new candidate is formally proposed, they will have 15 days to secure a vote of confidence from Parliament to form a new government.
