EU Ambassador to Sudan attacked in his own home
The EU ambassador to Sudan has been attacked in his home in Khartoum as fighting continues in the country gripped by violence after a military coup, reports the BBC, quoted by Digi24.ro
The announcement was made by the EU's high representative for foreign affairs, Josep Borrell. He gave no further details of the attack and did not say whether or not the ambassador was injured.
"The security of diplomatic premises and diplomatic staff is a primary responsibility of the Sudanese authorities and an obligation under international law," he said.
The EU ambassador to Sudan is Aidan O'Hara, an Irish diplomat.
At least 97 civilians have been killed in fighting between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary group RSF and more than 350 have been wounded. The World Health Organisation has warned that there is a shortage of blood and transfusion equipment in hospitals in the capital.
