Vasile Tofan reacts to PM nomination: 'I understand the gravity of the moment'
The candidate for Prime Minister proposed by the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS), entrepreneur Vasile Tofan, has stated that he accepts this responsibility at what he considers a critical moment for the Republic of Moldova. His goals focus on European integration, state institution reform, and economic development. Tofan emphasized the importance of not missing the "historic opportunity" to become a member state of the European Union.

After the Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) announced Vasile Tofan as its nominee for prime minister, Tofan expressed his views on Facebook regarding the European integration of the Republic of Moldova. He sees this as a pivotal opportunity to transform the country.
"The Republic of Moldova has achieved many remarkable victories in recent years, and now we have a historic chance to become a member of the European Union and build a European and free future for our nation and our children. I fully understand the seriousness of the moment and the genuine opportunity to guide Moldova to where it should have been 20 years ago. We cannot afford to miss this historic chance," Tofan stated.
As the PAS candidate for prime minister, Tofan intends to leverage his business experience to contribute to the country’s development and help achieve the goals set by the authorities. One of his key priorities is to sign the Treaty on the Accession of the Republic of Moldova to the European Union.
"I will dedicate all my energy and everything I have learned to ensure the country's success and meet the expectations of the citizens. My objectives align with those outlined by President Maia Sandu and discussions held within the faction — notably the signing of the Accession Treaty by 2028, the cleaning and strengthening of institutions, and economic development to enhance the well-being of our people," he said.
Tofan expressed his honor in being part of the team committed to the European integration of the Republic of Moldova, while also recognizing that a challenging period lies ahead.
"A lot of work is ahead of us. A lot of work," emphasised the parliamentary majority candidate for prime minister.
Vasile Tofan's candidacy will be discussed during consultations between PAS and President Maia Sandu, scheduled for tomorrow, July 11. If the president accepts the candidacy, he will have 15 days to develop a government program and present a list of future ministers to Parliament.
PAS, the party that holds the parliamentary majority, announced Tofan's candidacy following the resignation of former Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu. The party's leader, Igor Grosu, stated that the party shares Tofan's vision for European integration, institutional reform, and accelerated economic growth.
