Moldovan students abroad eligible for health insurance: Required documents

Pupils and students from Moldova who are enrolled in full-time studies abroad are eligible for government-funded health insurance when they return to the country. The coverage is granted upon confirmation of their student status.
"To obtain insured status, students must submit an application together with a certificate confirming that they are indeed studying abroad. This certificate is usually issued by the educational institution where the student is enrolled in full-time studies. After completing the application and attaching the certificate, they should submit the request to the representative of the National Health Insurance Company (CNAM) territorial agency responsible for their place of residence," said Tatiana Rotaru, Deputy Head of the CNAM Beneficiary Relations Department.
Students studying abroad must submit this certificate from their university every year.
According to the official, the health insurance is valid only within the territory of the Republic of Moldova, as she explained during the Zi de Zi program on Radio Moldova.
"When we talk about medical services, we mean the full range of healthcare services, including access to a family doctor, emergency medical care, consultations, treatment, follow-up care with a family physician and specialists, referrals for diagnostic tests, consultations, medications, advanced diagnostic investigations, as well as surgical and inpatient treatment, depending on each person's medical needs," Tatiana Rotaru said.
She concluded that the measure ensures students studying abroad receive the same healthcare coverage as students enrolled at universities in the Republic of Moldova.
The application form can be downloaded directly from the CNAM website under the "Beneficiaries" section. Students who need additional information or cannot find the application form can contact the INFO CNAM service.
