Preparations for the European Political Community meeting: What municipal authorities are doing
Preparations have begun for the European Political Community meeting to be held on 1 June in Chisinau. The municipal authorities are carrying out a series of actions for the organisation of this event, which is expected to be attended by dozens of delegations from abroad.
Thus, in the coming months, the roadway area from the city gates to Stefan cel Mare cel Mare și Sfânt Boulevard will be completely rehabilitated, including Dacia Boulevard, the viaduct and Ciuflea Street, and the construction sites will be put in order.
"We are striving to bring the construction sites in order, there is a lot of work. From the City Gates to the locations where delegations will be established, especially in the centre, Dacia Boulevard will be rehabilitated," said Chisinau Mayor Ion Ceban.
According to the local authorities, the roadway area from Porțile Orașului to Boulevard Ștefan cel Mare și Sfânt will be completely rehabilitated. Similarly, the renovation of the access road to Chisinau International Airport has been requested.
"The street lighting has been upgraded, the green space on Dacia Boulevard has been and is being upgraded, we have decorative lighting. We are clearing shrubs and trees in order to ensure security on the perimeter of the official delegations' security area, from the airport to the city gates, including Sângera. Assessments have been made in this regard and the costs are about 4 million lei," said Deputy Mayor Ilie Ceban.
The Republic of Moldova will host the second meeting of the European Political Community on 1 June. 47 presidents and heads of government, as well as EU leaders, are expected to attend the event.
Officials will discuss common efforts for peace in the context of the war in Ukraine and related crises, the defence of democracy, the strengthening of energy security and the resilience of European states.
