Moldova summons Russian envoy over armed drone crash

Moldova's Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned Russia's ambassador-designate, Oleg Ozerov, on Tuesday, July 14, after another Russian-made drone crashed on Moldovan territory overnight.

The Geran-2 (Shahed-136) drone carried a 40-kilogram shrapnel explosive payload. It crashed near a residential house in Copanca village, Căușeni district, during the night of July 13.

Diplomatic officials handed Ozerov a formal note of protest, citing "this severe violation of national sovereignty and the risks created for citizen security."

"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterates its call on the Russian Federation to avoid any actions that could jeopardize the security of the Republic of Moldova and to strictly respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of our country," Moldovan diplomats stated.
