Osmochescu after meeting Marta Kos: "We remain committed to proving that Moldova belongs in the European family"

Acting Prime Minister Eugeniu Osmochescu met with European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos on July 14. During their meeting, they discussed key topics to advance the accession process and enhance cooperation with the European Union. This discussion took place at the official opening of the sixth cluster of negotiations.
During the meeting, officials reaffirmed their joint commitment to advancing the European path of the Republic of Moldova, which remains the Government's priority strategic objective. The discussions also centered on the concrete progress made in the negotiation process with the European Union.
“We appreciate the strong support of the European Union for the transformation of the Republic of Moldova and for our European path. We are aware of the responsibility we have and continue to work to demonstrate, through tangible results, that our country belongs in the European family,” declared interim Prime Minister Eugeniu Osmochescu.
The officials also reviewed the outcomes of the EU-Republic of Moldova Investment Conference. This event served as an important signal of confidence in the country's economic potential and helped mobilize significant investments in strategic areas such as energy, digital infrastructure, education, innovation, and competitiveness.
On July 14, in Brussels, the Republic of Moldova officially opened negotiations for accession to the EU on Cluster 6 – “External Relations.”
During the event, Eugeniu Osmochescu stated that the opening of negotiations for Cluster 6 confirms that the accession process of the Republic of Moldova is advancing “based on merit and the reforms we have implemented.”
“Just one month after the opening of negotiations for Cluster 1, today’s intergovernmental conference confirms that the accession process continues to advance. Each cluster we open brings us closer to our goal of becoming a member state of the European Union, ready to assume all the rights and responsibilities that come with this membership,” Osmochescu added.
According to him, the opening of Cluster 6 reflects the “firm, sovereign, and irreversible geopolitical choice” of the Republic of Moldova and signifies a shift from being a country that aligns its foreign policy with that of the European Union to becoming a future member capable of actively contributing to the common foreign and security policy.
The interim Prime Minister emphasized that European integration represents “the strongest guarantee for peace, security, and stability,” highlighting that the Republic of Moldova is prepared to contribute to European security.
The delegation of the Republic of Moldova was led by interim Prime Minister Eugeniu Osmochescu, with the negotiating position for this cluster presented by Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration, Cristina Gherasimov.
The common position of the 27 member states was adopted unanimously on July 10, and the intergovernmental conference on July 14 officially formalized this decision.
