MFA confirms Moldovan family deaths in Greece; second child remains hospitalized

A family from the Republic of Moldova was involved in a serious road accident on the afternoon of July 15 in the Halkidiki region of Greece. After a violent collision between their car and a tanker truck, the woman and her baby tragically died at the scene, while the man later died in the hospital. The couple's second child was injured and is currently hospitalized, according to Greek media reports.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) in Chisinau confirmed that four citizens of the Republic of Moldova, all members of the same family, were involved in a recent tragedy. Three family members, including the parents and one child, have died, while the second child, aged seven, is currently hospitalized in serious condition.

The MFA stated that this information was provided by the Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in Athens.

The embassy is in contact with Greek authorities, medical facilities, and the victims' families to monitor the situation and provide consular support. Additionally, the embassy is taking necessary steps to repatriate the deceased.

The MFA extends its condolences to the bereaved family and expresses deep sympathy for those affected by this tragedy. The institution will continue to follow the development of the case through the Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in Athens and maintain communication with Greek authorities.

Moldovan family involved in horrific accident in Greece. Parents and one child died, another injured

According to Greek authorities, the accident occurred around 18:30 on the Nea Moudania - Nikiti provincial road, near the town of Polygyros. The cause of the accident has not yet been determined.

Eight firefighters, equipped with three specialized vehicles, responded to the scene and conducted an extensive extrication operation using specialized rescue equipment. Unfortunately, a woman and a baby were extracted from the car with no vital signs.

The father of the children was rescued in serious condition and transported to Polygyros Hospital; however, doctors were unable to save his life. The family's other child sustained injuries and was also admitted to the same hospital.

The driver of the tanker was not injured in the incident.

As a result of the accident, traffic on the Polygyros - Agios Nikolaos provincial road was temporarily halted.

The Polygyros Traffic Police have launched an investigation to determine the exact causes and circumstances of the collision.
