Ion Suruceanu, Olga Ciolacu and seven others named Honorary Citizens of Chișinău

On Thursday, July 16, the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) approved the proposal from the General Directorate of Culture to name nine more Honorary Citizens in Chisinau municipality, including singers, poets, and champions.

The title of Honorary Citizen of Chișinău was awarded to several distinguished individuals: composer, musicologist, and university professor Constantin Rusnac, singers Lidia Botezatu, Anișoara Puică, Olga Ciolacu, and Ion Suruceanu, world champion Mihail Malear, artistic director and first conductor of the Academic Choral Chapel "Doina," Ilona Stepan, musicologist and director of the National Philharmonic "Serghei Lunchevici," Svetlana Bivol, and poet, prose writer, essayist, and publicist Ianoș Țurcanu.

These titles were awarded during the celebration of Chișinău Day, which is marked annually on July 17. This year, the capital commemorates 590 years since its first documented mention.

"I extend my congratulations to those who have received this honorary title, along with the City Council. Thank you, friends! Congratulations and best wishes for continued success," said Chiril Moțpan, advisor of the "Dignity and Truth" Platform, who chaired today’s City Council meeting.

"These are the individuals who bring fame to Chișinău and the Republic of Moldova through their work and dedication," stated mayor Ion Ceban in a message shared on social media.

The Chișinău City Hall is currently reviewing other candidacies submitted by various groups. These will be presented to the Municipal Council for approval during the Chișinău Day celebration, held annually on October 14.
