Moldovan postal market revenue doubles as private courier firms lead

E-commerce expansion doubled Moldova’s postal service revenue between 2024 and 2025, reaching €48 million (approx. 941 million MDL), up from €24 million.

Regional private logistics firms drove this rapid expansion, outperforming state-owned operator Poșta Moldovei, according to economic expert Veaceslav Ioniță.

E-commerce drives cross-border shipping surge Total postal shipments reached nearly 11.94 million packages in 2025.

Moldovan consumers spent €760.2 million on foreign online retail platforms, compared to €178.6 million in domestic online purchases.

"E-commerce played a decisive role in revitalizing the postal services market," Ioniță noted.

Private couriers capture over 80% of growth

Private operators adapted quickly to changing consumer demands while the national operator struggled to keep pace.

Ukrainian firm Nova Poshta generated approximately two-thirds of the market's total growth in 2025. Romanian operator Fan Courier secured the second spot, showing significant momentum throughout 2024 and 2025.

Together, the two companies accounted for over 80% of the market's overall expansion.

"The growth of these two private operators substantially altered market dynamics, accelerating the modernization and diversification of services," Ioniță explained.

State operator struggles to adapt

Moldova's postal sector historically experienced modest growth, moving from €15.3 million in 2016 to €24.0 million in 2023.

The market accelerated sharply during the 2024–2025 period, doubling its total revenues within two years.

In contrast, state-owned Poșta Moldovei posted modest revenue growth of €1.7 million in 2024, followed by a decline of €0.97 million in 2025.

Employment trends mirror this shift, with job creation concentrated almost entirely within the private sector while the state operator stagnated, turning a previously dormant industry into a high-growth market.
