Moldova hospital performs country's first hemoadsorption procedure

Doctors at the Gheorghe Paladi Municipal Clinical Hospital in Chisinau have performed the first hemoadsorption procedure in the Republic of Moldova.
The advanced therapy was administered to a patient admitted to the Intensive Care Unit in critical condition. The patient suffered from a severe intra-abdominal infection and peritonitis, a complex pathology carrying a high risk of sepsis and multiple organ failure.
The medical team integrated hemoadsorption into the patient's complex treatment plan. The extracorporeal therapy utilized the Purify system and a CytoSorb filter, which removes inflammatory mediators from the bloodstream to prevent the systemic inflammatory response characteristic of sepsis.
According to hospital officials, introducing this technology marks a significant milestone for intensive care development in Moldova. The procedure expands treatment options for patients facing sepsis, septic shock, and other severe inflammatory conditions.
A multidisciplinary team coordinated by Ghenadie Severin, head of the Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Department, made the clinical breakthrough possible.
"Professionalism, experience, and an openness to innovation enabled the successful implementation of this modern extracorporeal therapy," the hospital statement noted, emphasizing its potential to improve outcomes for critically ill patients.
Hospital representatives stated that the achievement confirms the capacity of Moldova's medical system to adopt the clinical standards used by leading international medical centers.
