AI platform from Chisinau reaches 500 companies

Performance, innovation, and ideas from the Republic of Moldova are making their mark on international markets. A clear example of this is an artificial intelligence platform developed in Chisinau, which is already being utilized by over 500 businesses across Moldova, Romania, the European Union, and the United States.

The app functions as a digital sales assistant, responding in under 2 seconds, supporting over 30 languages, and automatically managing customer interactions.

An AI application developed in the Republic of Moldova is making waves in the global market. This app began with a proprietary algorithm designed to scan technical documents more efficiently, with the concept emerging in 2023.

"The launch of ChatGPT created a boom, leading to a surge of AI platforms. I participated in a hackathon where I proposed developing an AI assistant to answer questions from those seeking information from the Public Services Agency (ASP). Given the ASP's size and extensive call center operations, it's crucial to address the numerous inquiries from citizens. This sparked the idea to create an assistant that could aid not just individuals seeking government services, but also businesses leveraging AI," explained Liviu Maftuleac, a programmer with over 20 years in IT, during an interview on the "Zi de Zi" show on Radio Moldova.

Many entrepreneurs and everyday people express skepticism about chatbots, often associating them with rigid automated responses.

"I understand the reluctance toward chatting with chatbots, and it's valid. This skepticism stems from previous experiences that didn’t meet expectations. Consequently, we considered how to address this issue by improving response quality and the capabilities of these assistants. It's not only about providing intelligent answers; it’s also about the actions these assistants can perform. If an assistant cannot resolve an inquiry, it should be able to redirect the conversation to a responsible person, alleviating trust issues. If a customer interacts with AI that cannot address their concern, they shouldn't leave dissatisfied with the company's services," Maftuleac explained.

There's also a widespread fear that artificial intelligence will eliminate jobs in sales departments.

"Yes, there is concern in society that AI will replace our jobs. However, my perspective is different. Instead of fearing replacement, we should view it as an opportunity for enhancement. For instance, if a company has a call center staffed by two or three individuals, AI can increase their capacity. Rather than helping 10-15 people a day, they could assist 50-60 people a day, according to the figures. Thus, AI does not necessarily replace jobs; it improves business efficiency and adds value," he added.

The application he developed is called "FineGuide." It serves various industries, from car service centers to call centers. "This application isn’t just about chatbots that communicate via text on a website; it also includes telephone platforms where AI can autonomously handle phone calls and perform specific actions," he noted.

One company currently utilizes this AI to automate the processing of incoming job applications. The assistant provides information on available positions, and if a client wishes to apply, they can do so directly through the assistant.

"This represents significant optimisation, helping to reduce the number of calls that typically consume time and resources for these companies," the specialist said.

Maftuleac believes that if the current trajectory continues, the platform is poised for global growth. He also encourages young people interested in IT or aspiring to launch startups with the potential for global reach. Now, more than ever, there are numerous opportunities available to help them grow rapidly.
