Nicu Popescu, on the summoning of the Russian ambassador: we, in the Republic of Moldova, do not associate with people who support and promote the killing of civilians
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu, gives details about the summoning to the MFAEI of the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Moldova, Oleg Vasnetsov. Popescu said today at a press conference held with the Foreign Minister of the Kingdom of the Netherlands that the Republic of Moldova will not tolerate disrespectful behaviour towards state representatives and citizens of the country. Popescu promised to come back with details of the discussion with the Russian diplomat.
"We in the Republic of Moldova do not associate with people who support and promote the killing of civilians, women, children in the neighbouring country. We in the Republic of Moldova regardless of ethnicity: Romanian, Gagauz, Bulgarian, Russian, Ukrainian speakers do not want and will not associate with people who promote atrocities, brutality, torture," said Nicu Popescu.
The Deputy Prime Minister confirmed that he would hold talks today with the Russian ambassador in Chisinau, stressing that some employees of the Russian Embassy had shown contemptuous behaviour towards Moldova. The head of diplomacy in Chisinau promised that he will communicate about the measures to be taken against these representatives of the Russian diplomacy.
"Certain employees of the Russian Federation behaved disrespectfully towards the representatives of the Republic of Moldova, towards colleagues from the Border Police, the MIA and this type of behaviour towards the Republic of Moldova, towards the citizens of the Republic of Moldova will not be tolerated. Measures will be taken against these representatives of the Russian Federation and when these measures will be applied we will inform you with details", said Popescu.
Today the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Moldova, Oleg Vasnetsov, will be summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration. The decision of the Chisinau authorities comes in the context of the visit to Gagauzia of the head of Russia's Tatarstan republic, Rustam Minnihanov, who was to enter the Republic of Moldova on Monday 17 April.
At the meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers, Prime Minister Dorin Recean demanded the withdrawal of accreditation cards at Chisinau International Airport from two representatives of the Russian Embassy.
"They behaved improperly in the case related to the President of Tatarstan, who was not allowed access to the territory of our country," said government spokesman Daniel Voda after the cabinet meeting.
Prime Minister Dorin Recean also indicated the need to declare an official of the Russian Embassy persona non grata. Russian Ambassador Oleg Vasnetsov will be informed today about the authorities' decision on these cases, Voda said.
The authorities have given assurances that they will come back with details of the discussion with the Russian ambassador.
