Moldova Premier Tofan seeks first official visits to Romania, EU
Moldova's newly appointed Prime Minister, Vasile Tofan, has expressed his intention to make Bucharest his first official foreign destination, followed by a visit to Brussels.
The announcement comes shortly after the new cabinet was officially sworn in on Wednesday, July 22, following parliamentary approval late the previous evening. President Maia Sandu and Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu attended the swearing-in ceremony.
Strategic priorities and dual citizenship
Highlighting the strategic partnership between Chisinau and Bucharest, Tofan acknowledged that while the political climate in Romania is currently complex, it remains his top foreign priority.
Tofan also confirmed that he holds dual Moldovan and Romanian citizenship, noting that obtaining Romanian passports is a widespread practice across the country, where over a third of citizens share dual nationality.
Cabinet continuity
The new administration retains most key ministers from the previous government led by former Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu.
The only leadership changes introduced by Prime Minister Tofan involve the ministries of Finance, Health, Culture, and Agriculture.
