A representative of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Moldova declared persona non grata

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration (MFAEI) summoned an hour ago the Ambassador of the Russian Federation in Chisinau, Oleg Vasnetsov. He was informed about the inappropriate behaviour of two Russian diplomats towards the Moldovan authorities. At the same time, the MFAEI informs that it has declared a representative of the Russian Embassy in Chisinau persona non grata on the territory of our country, and he is obliged to leave the territory of the Republic of Moldova.

"For actions incompatible with diplomatic status, in accordance with the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations (1961), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration informs that a representative of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Chisinau has been declared persona non grata on the territory of the Republic of Moldova and is obliged to leave the territory of the Republic of Moldova," MFAEI said.

After the talks at the MFA, Oleg Vasnetsov referred to Moscow's position, which describes Chisinau's action as unfriendly.

"We asked the Foreign Ministry for an explanation of what the delegation's and the embassy's inappropriate behaviour means, but we did not receive any answer. We join the statements of the Russian Foreign Minister who qualifies these actions as unfriendly steps towards our country and damaging to both sides."

Earlier, Moldovan diplomatic chief Nicu Popescu said that the Moldovan authorities would not tolerate disrespectful behaviour towards the representatives of the state and citizens of the country.

On Monday, several foreign citizens were banned from entering the Republic of Moldova on the grounds that they did not meet the conditions for crossing the state border. Among them was the leader of the Republic of Tatarstan in the Russian Federation, Rustam Minnihanov, who was due to attend a congress in Comrat.
