DECREE | Radu Musteața removed as agriculture minister
Radu Musteața was officially dismissed from his position as Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry after the President of the Republic of Moldova signed a decree acknowledging his resignation. This decision was made on the same day that the minister announced his withdrawal from the government, which occurred just two days after the inauguration of the Cabinet led by Vasile Tofan.
The Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry announced his resignation on the morning of Friday, July 24. Prime Minister Vasile Tofan accepted this request, describing it as "a personal decision, a gesture of responsibility, taken to protect public trust in the Government and in the act of governing."
Radu Musteața explained that he chose to step down in order to avoid impacting the Executive's activities and the institution's reputation, particularly in light of allegations regarding his past membership in the Democratic Party of Moldova.
He rejected these accusations, asserting that his "professionalism and fairness" should not be "tarnished and eroded by false and manipulative information."
The Speaker of the Parliament, Igor Grosu, expressed his desire for Radu Musteața to remain in office, commending his previous work leading the National Food Safety Agency (ANSA).
He stated, "I have known him for many years. He has delivered significant results for ANSA on very complicated subjects. The fact that we managed to bring part of our production to the demanding EU market is also due to his efforts. He effectively managed crisis situations like swine fever, bird flu, and the meat import issues from Ukraine."
Additionally, the leader of the PAS party referred to Musteața's resignation as an "honorary resignation" and indicated that the Executive would soon submit a proposal for a new Minister of Agriculture.
Political analyst Anatol Țăranu views Musteața's resignation as a positive indication of the maturation of the political class in the Republic of Moldova. He believes that the key issue was not the alleged political affiliation, but rather the importance of credibility.
He stated, "The fact that a minister resigned after being accused of providing false information to the public is something that, even a few years ago, would have been hard to imagine in the Republic of Moldova." Anatol Țăranu appreciates that such a decision aligns with the standards of European democracies.
