US extends deadline for Lukoil asset sales until August 22

The US Department of the Treasury will allow specific financial transactions involving Lukoil International GmbH to proceed until August 22, according to an official statement published via Reuters.

Washington placed the Russian oil producer on its sanctions list in October 2025. The designation triggered significant interest from potential buyers targeting the firm’s foreign holdings, valued at an estimated $22 billion (approx. €20.2 billion).

The US administration has repeatedly extended compliance windows to enable Lukoil to divest its international gas station networks orderly.

However, the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) specified that proceeds from any asset sales must be transferred directly into a US-jurisdiction account. These funds will remain frozen until sanctions against Lukoil are lifted.
