Oazu Nantoi: Challenges in the security zone aim to make Ukraine keep military troops in the vicinity of Transnistria
The purpose of the violations in the Security Zone is part of the Russian Federation's conscious policies to maintain tension in the area. The statement was made by expert on the Transnistrian region Oazu Nantoi for the public TV channel Moldova 1. Nantoi also says that Russia through these actions is forcing Ukraine to keep military units in the immediate vicinity and not allow them to be used on the frontline with Russia.
"The provocative statements by the Russian Federation that Ukraine intends to attack the so-called Transnistria also serve this purpose. This conflict is not internal and the so-called peacekeeping forces serve the causes of preserving the conflict and not solving it. These are ordinary provocations, conscious attempts to tense the situation so that Ukraine will have to keep some troops in the neighbourhood", said Oazu Nantoi.
According to Nantoi, the Russian Federation is isolated, has no access to the Transnistrian region and cannot destabilise the situation on either the right or left bank of the Dniester.
"There are no simple solutions, but the Russian Federation is losing control of the situation and is resorting to these primitive actions in an attempt to tense the situation in order to camouflage its failure on the Ukrainian front and, I repeat, not to allow Ukraine to concentrate its forces only on that front. The Russian Federation cannot destabilise anything here, because the puppets in Tiraspol are behaving very nicely in inverted commas, because they are puppets squared. They represent the interests of the international organised crime network, which for decades has been engaged in smuggling on a particularly large scale and which does not need wars with anyone. Business, no matter how dirty, needs silence," says Nantoi.
On Wednesday, at 04:53 in the morning, a case of uncoordinated movement of armoured military equipment with Russian soldiers on mission was recorded near the peacekeeping post No. 9 near the Vadul-lui-Vodă bridge, Chisinau municipality. Chisinau representatives of the Unified Control Commission reported in a statement that a convoy consisting of an armoured vehicle "BTR-60" and a military truck "Ural", carrying a group of soldiers, their faces hidden under military masks, but who are not part of the personnel of the peacekeeping posts, moved to the internal customs and police post "Pîrîta" and back to the post No. 9. The delegation of Chisinau states that, in fact, during February-April this year, such actions of movement of armoured military equipment outside the radius of the Joint Peacekeeping Forces posts have been recorded. According to the representatives of Chisinau in the Unified Control Commission, these incidents have repercussions in society and amplify the discontent of the inhabitants of the Security Zone, who are periodically subjected to unjustified stops with excessive checks of documents and means of transport. The Moldovan delegation appeals to the military contingent of the Russian Federation to refrain from destabilising actions and to contribute to the preservation of peace on the banks of the Dniester.
