Most medicines authorized by AMDM in 2026 are new to the Moldovan market
In 2026, the number of medicines available on the pharmaceutical market in the Republic of Moldova increased by 167. During the first seven months of the year, the Agency for Medicines and Medical Devices (AMDM) authorized a total of 245 new preparations, with 67% of these registered for the first time.
The highest number of medicines were approved in May, with a total of 67 preparations, including 41 first-time authorizations. In contrast, March saw the fewest approvals, with only 20 products authorized, of which nine were new.
In January, the AMDM authorized 30 medicines, with 17 being first-time approvals, while February had 31 preparations, including another 17 first-time authorizations. In April and June, 27 and 31 medicines were authorized respectively, with a total of 48 being first-time approvals across both months.
The most recent authorization decision came in July, when the AMDM Medicines Commission approved 39 medicines, 33 of which were first-time authorizations.
This month’s list includes essential medicines for patients suffering from rare diseases, such as Miglustat Dipharma, used to treat Gaucher disease type I and the neurological manifestations associated with Niemann-Pick disease type C, and Nitisinone Dipharma, which is indicated for the treatment of hereditary tyrosinemia type 1 and alkaptonuria.
Additionally, for the first time in the Moldovan market, drugs for the treatment of nicotine addiction were authorized: Nicorette Freshfruit (chewing medicated gum) in 2 mg and 4 mg, and Nicorette Icemint in 4 mg.
The list of new authorizations also includes drugs aimed at treating diabetes, such as Jivolar 50 mg and Dapafort 5 mg, as well as preparations for digestive tract diseases, reproductive dysfunctions, and various other pathologies.
The Government has recently approved the concept and regulations for the Information System for Monitoring Medicine Stocks (SIMSM). This new system is set to be operational by December 2026 and will enable authorities to track the availability of medicines in pharmacies, warehouses, and medical institutions in real time. By doing so, it will help identify and manage shortages before they impact patients.
The pharmaceutical market in the Republic of Moldova is primarily supplied by imported drugs. The main countries exporting pharmaceutical preparations to Moldova include Germany, Romania, Slovenia, Hungary, and Turkey.
According to the Agency's latest report, the value of the pharmaceutical market reached nearly 286.7 million euros in 2025, based on producer prices. Of this total, 266.3 million euros, or 92.9%, represent imported medicines, while 20.37 million euros, or 7.1%, are domestically produced.
Compared to 2024, the pharmaceutical market in 2025 experienced a 5.39% increase in value and a 3.69% increase in volume, as measured by the number of boxes of medicines sold.
