Maia Sandu, Markus Söder announce new Moldovan-Bavarian economic commission
The Republic of Moldova and the German state of Bavaria will establish an intergovernmental commission for economic cooperation, aimed at stimulating investments, trade and collaboration in areas such as industry, agriculture and modern technologies. The announcement was made by the President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, and the Prime Minister of the state of Bavaria, Markus Söder, during a joint press conference held on July 31 in Chisinau.
Bavaria is one of the most important destinations for Moldovan exports on the German market. According to President Maia Sandu, more than half of Moldova's exports to Germany reach this state, and in 2025 their value increased by over 50%, reaching 73 million euros.
"We have a solid foundation, but there is room for more. We want more Moldovan companies to enter Bavarian value chains and more Bavarian companies to discover the advantages of investing and producing in the Republic of Moldova. Because we are increasingly integrated into the European market, we can offer Bavarian companies a competitive platform close to the main markets of the European Union," Maia Sandu pointed out.
The head of state also highlighted the role that the Republic of Moldova can play in the reconstruction of Ukraine, emphasizing that the expertise and resources of Bavarian companies would make a valuable contribution to this process.
"Economic cooperation between us can also contribute to the reconstruction of Ukraine. The Republic of Moldova can serve as a bridge for European companies that will participate in this great effort, and Bavarian companies have the experience, technology and capacity to play an important role", declared Maia Sandu.
At the same conference, the head of state appreciated the support provided by Germany in recent years to strengthen the security of the Republic of Moldova.
"Germany is one of the most important partners of our country. In recent years, German support has contributed to the security of the Republic of Moldova, to strengthening our defense capacity and the resilience of institutions, to modernizing the economy and overcoming the energy crisis", stated Maia Sandu.
Söder: "Compared to others, you work very hard"
The Republic of Moldova has an important role in the European architecture, and the Bavarian authorities support the European integration of our country, declared, in turn, the Prime Minister of Bavaria, Markus Söder.
At the same time, the German official appreciated the progress made by our country in areas such as justice, police and strengthening the rule of law, noting that Bavaria wants to continue supporting these efforts.
"We believe that Moldova must have a place in the European Union. We see that, compared to others, you work very hard, very intensively. We want to support you not only in the area of the rule of law, but also in the economy. That is why we are also creating a joint governmental commission," said Markus Söder, specifying that the new commission will target areas such as agriculture, modern technologies, artificial intelligence and medicine - sectors in which Bavaria has significant experience.
Bavaria's support for the European path of the Republic of Moldova must be manifested both by supporting reforms and by developing economic relations.
"We obviously need support from European institutions so that we can move forward in this process, and we need economic cooperation, because it is important to deliver results for citizens today, not just in a few years," concluded the President of the Republic of Moldova.

Bavaria is the largest German state in terms of area and one of the strongest industrialized economies in Europe, recognized for its automotive industry, advanced technologies and innovation capacity.
The visit takes place in the context in which the Republic of Moldova is strengthening its ties with the member states of the European Union on the path to accession and intensifying its efforts to attract foreign investment. Cooperation with Bavaria opens up important opportunities in this regard, including through the integration of Moldovan companies into Bavarian value chains.
