Heatwave and fire risk in Moldova: Two Yellow Codes issued for early August
The Meteorology and Environmental Monitoring Authority issued two Yellow Code warnings on Friday, July 31, announcing a heatwave for the period August 1–3 and an increased risk of vegetation fires from August 1–7.
According to meteorologists, maximum temperatures will rise to 35°C in large areas, and in some areas they may reach 36°C, while the lack of precipitation and heat increase the risk of fires.
According to the meteorological warning, during the period August 1–3, *"in large areas, the maximum air temperature will reach values of 33–35°C, isolated up to 36°C."
Meteorologists specify that the targeted areas are those indicated on the official map issued by the IP "Meteorology and Environmental Monitoring Authority," and the warning may be modified depending on the evolution of meteorological conditions.
Also, the institution issued a Yellow Code regarding the fire danger, valid from August 1 to 7.
The warning message states that *"in the context of the deficit of precipitation and high temperatures, the exceptional danger of vegetation fires remains."
In this case too, the authorities specify that the affected areas are those indicated on the official map, and the message and map will be updated depending on the evolution and intensity of the forecasted phenomena.
High temperatures and the lack of precipitation favor the outbreak and rapid spread of vegetation fires, which is why the population is urged to exercise caution and avoid using open fire near agricultural lands, forests and areas with dry vegetation.
