Regional energy market under pressure: Energocom urges responsible electricity use during peak hours

S.A. "Energocom" announces that it fully meets the electricity needs of consumers in the Republic of Moldova, despite pressures on regional markets caused by the state of alert declared in Romania due to reduced energy production.

The company is urging the public to use electricity responsibly, particularly between 6:00 PM and 11:00 PM, to help limit additional purchase costs and maintain the stability of the electricity system.
According to "Energocom," "in light of the state of alert declared in Romania for a period of 30 days, due to the decrease in electricity production related to the reduced flow of the Danube, regional markets are experiencing additional pressure." This situation may increase Romania's need for electricity imports and could lead to fluctuations in electricity prices.
In response, S.A. "Energocom" has announced that it purchased a total of 9,523 MWh of electricity for August 1, 2026, to meet consumption needs in the Republic of Moldova.
The company specifies that the energy purchased consists of 33.05% from local and eligible renewable sources, 51.68% from bilateral import contracts, 13.85% from the Romanian Day-Ahead Market through OPCOM and BRM, and 1.42% from district heating power plant production.
Representatives from the company caution that during peak consumption hours, there may be a need for additional purchases from regional markets, where energy is usually more expensive. They emphasize that "responsible use of electricity helps reduce these costs and maintain the balance of the national electricity system."
Energocom also encourages citizens "to use electricity wisely and, when possible, to refrain from using high-consumption appliances between 6:00 PM and 11:00 PM." The company recommends using appliances like washing machines, dryers, electric water heaters, and other high-consumption devices during the day, when energy demand is lower. This practice will help alleviate pressure on the electricity system and reduce purchase costs.
