Latvia reaffirms support for Moldova's EU accession in Tofan–Braže meeting
Latvia has pledged to support the Republic of Moldova in its efforts to advance negotiations for accession to the European Union. Latvia's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Baiba Braže, made this commitment during a meeting with Prime Minister Vasile Tofan. The discussion between the two officials also highlighted the development of economic relations, bilateral cooperation, and regional security.
During the meeting, the Head of the Executive expressed gratitude to the Latvian side for their ongoing support in the European integration process, highlighting that the Republic of Moldova is meeting its commitments.
The Prime Minister stated that Moldova is prepared to move forward in the accession negotiations, based on the progress achieved and commitments fulfilled.
Additionally, the meeting addressed several topics, including the implementation of the Growth Plan for the Republic of Moldova, cooperation in digital transformation, strengthening cybersecurity, and supporting Ukraine in light of the aggression from the Russian Federation.
Furthermore, Latvia's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Baiba Braže, reiterated strong support for Moldova's European path and offered expertise in priority areas.
On Monday, August 3, Baiba Braže, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia, met with President Maia Sandu. Their discussion focused on deepening bilateral cooperation, supporting Moldova's accession to the European Union, and strengthening energy security and resilience.
President Sandu expressed gratitude to Latvia for its steadfast support of the Republic of Moldova in its pursuit of European integration. She also thanked Latvia for its assistance in strengthening state institutions, enhancing energy resilience, and promoting digital transformation. Additionally, Maia Sandu noted that Moldova continues to be a priority country in Latvia's development cooperation policy.
Baiba Braže is in the Republic of Moldova for a working visit from August 3 to 4. During her visit, she is scheduled to hold talks with Mihai Popșoi, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova.
