Moldovan author Iulian Filip promotes reading at Chisinau library
The "Onisifor Ghibu" Library in Chisinau hosted a youth reading session featuring prominent Moldovan author and poet Iulian Filip. Dozens of local schoolchildren gathered to discuss the creative process, recite poetry, and discover the joy of literature.
The event took place under the "Writer at Home" project, a core component of the "LecturaCentral 2026" National Reading Program. Spearheaded under the auspices of the Moldovan Ministry of Culture, the nationwide initiative aims to connect authors with local communities and foster lifelong reading habits.
Fostering youth literacy through engagement
Among the attendees was a group of students from the Alliance Française summer camp in Chisinau. The visit formed part of the camp’s broader educational curriculum designed to boost creativity and cultural awareness.
"For me, this is a valuable chance to meet native writers," said Dumitrița Bicherschi, a teacher at Alliance Française. "For the children, meeting authors face-to-face directly inspires their passion for reading and personal culture."
During the interactive session, Iulian Filip engaged the audience by reciting poetry alongside the students and answering their questions. To encourage active participation, the writer awarded mini-books to the most curious young readers.
A nationwide cultural effort
Vitalie Răileanu, Director of the "Onisifor Ghibu" Library, emphasized the strategic purpose of these public encounters. "The goal is to show young people that spending time around books shapes who they become," Răileanu stated.
The "Writer at Home" campaign continues throughout the year across all districts of the Republic of Moldova, bringing authors of different generations directly to regional public libraries.
