Moldova sets up 37 heat relief stations as temperatures rise
Moldova’s General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU) assisted over 4,700 people on the first day of operating emergency heat relief centers across the country.
Emergency crews deployed 37 cooling stations on August 5 following extreme heat warnings issued by national weather monitoring authorities. The operational points remain open nationwide, including in the major municipalities of Chisinau and Balti.
Emergency response and public relief
Rescuers and firefighters distributed 1,299 liters of drinking water during the initial deployment. Visitors at the centers received hydration, shaded shelter from direct sunlight, and basic assistance from first responders.
Authorities confirmed the cooling centers will remain active throughout the duration of the meteorological heat alert.
