Chisinau Airport faces peak traffic over double its capacity

Chișinău "Eugen Doga" International Airport is experiencing record passenger volumes this August during the peak summer holiday season.

Peak passenger flow now exceeds 1,900 travelers per hour. This figure is more than double the terminal's designed operating capacity.

The highest congestion occurs across three daily intervals: 01:00 to 05:00, 08:00 to 12:00, and 20:00 to 22:00.

Operational response and heat management

To manage the surge, airport management supplements its operational team with approximately 200 additional employees each month during high-traffic periods.

To combat extreme summer heat, air conditioning systems are operating at maximum capacity following recent upgrades. Free drinking water hydration points are also available inside waiting areas.

Outside the terminals, authorities installed shaded canopies equipped with water-misting nozzles to improve passenger comfort in high temperatures.

Passenger advisory

Airport administration strongly advises travelers to arrive at least three hours before their scheduled departure time, particularly during peak operating hours.

Information desk personnel and roving airport staff are deployed throughout access zones and terminals to assist passengers requiring guidance.
