Vasile Tofan discusses investment, the economy and European integration with the Italian and Turkish ambassadors
Prime Minister Vasile Tofan met on Friday with the ambassadors of Italy and Turkey to the Republic of Moldova, Giuseppe Maria Perricone and Uygar Mustafa Sertel. The discussions centered on support for Moldova's European integration, the development of economic relations, and the attraction of new investments.
The Italian Ambassador reaffirmed his country's support for the European integration process and the modernization of the Republic of Moldova. During their discussions, officials focused on enhancing economic cooperation in areas such as agriculture, the food industry, tourism, and information technology. Currently, there are over 1,100 companies with Italian investment operating in the Republic of Moldova.
Additionally, the parties addressed the expansion of development cooperation, highlighting projects undertaken by the Italian Agency for Cooperation and Development. These projects span various sectors, including energy, health, and support for small and medium-sized enterprises.
During a meeting with the Turkish ambassador, officials discussed ways to deepen their strategic partnership and encourage increased Turkish investments in various sectors, including infrastructure, renewable energy, tourism, health, and culture. According to the Government, Moldovan-Turkish trade reached 478.3 million euros in the first five months of 2026, with Moldovan exports rising by nearly 25% compared to the same period in 2025.
An additional topic addressed during the Moldovan-Turkish discussions was the cooperation in preserving and promoting the Gagauz language and culture.
