European Capital of Culture 2033: Moldovan cities invited to compete

Cities and municipalities in the Republic of Moldova are invited to apply to represent the country in the 2033 "European Capital of Culture" competition. This national competition is the first stage in selecting a candidate city from Moldova, which will then compete in the subsequent European-level selection.

The Secretary of State at the Ministry of Culture, Marcela Nistor, encourages localities interested in applying for a prestigious title to do so, emphasizing the benefits it offers.

“This title presents a unique opportunity to enhance the city’s visibility at the European level, attract investment, and foster the development of the cultural and creative sector. We urge all interested cities to review the Competition Regulations and submit their applications,” stated Nistor.

Cities and municipalities of any size are eligible to participate. Applications will be assessed based on six criteria: contribution to the city’s long-term development strategy, the European dimension of the program, cultural and artistic content, implementation capacity, public involvement, and administrative management.

Applications can be submitted electronically or physically until October 4.
