Moldova won two medals at the International Olympiad in Informatics in Uzbekistan
The Republic of Moldova achieved remarkable results at the International Olympiad in Informatics, held from August 9 to 16 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. Student Alin Popescu earned a silver medal, while Alexei Baca received a bronze medal. Both students are from the "Orizont" Theoretical Lyceum located in Durleşti, within the Chisinau municipality.
The Ministry of Education and Research has announced that Popescu Alin, a 12th-grade student at the Private Educational Institution “Orizont” Theoretical Lyceum in Durlești, Chișinău municipality, won the silver medal. The bronze medal was awarded to Baca Alexei, a 10th-grade student at the same school.
This year’s international competition featured 375 students from 92 countries. The Republic of Moldova was represented by a team of four students and two teachers.
The national Olympic team also included Oleg Rața, a 12th-grade student at the “Nicolae Milescu Spătaru” Theoretical Lyceum in Chișinău, and Anastasia Corsac, an 11th-grade student at the “Orizont” Theoretical Lyceum in Durlești.
The team from the Republic of Moldova was led by Sergiu Corlat, PhD, a professor at the State University of Moldova, as team leader, and Igor Bercu, head of the department at the Electronic Governance Agency, as deputy leader.
The Ministry of Education and Research, along with the National Agency for Curriculum and Evaluation, congratulated the award-winning students, their teachers, and their parents.
In a press release, the Ministry stated, "We congratulate the award-winning students, their teachers, and parents, and we thank the members of the Republican Olympic Council in Informatics for their contribution to preparing the national Olympic team."
