Chisinau International Airport's passenger traffic rose by 21%

Chisinau "Eugen Doga" International Airport experienced a 21% increase in passenger traffic during the first half of 2026, significantly surpassing the European average of 2.6%. This achievement strengthens Chisinau Airport's status among medium-sized airports in Europe and highlights the growth of the aviation market in the Republic of Moldova.
In the first half of 2026, the European airport market experienced more moderate growth, with an increase of 2.6%. In contrast, the “Eugen Doga” International Airport in Chișinău reported a remarkable 21% growth rate.
This disparity is particularly notable among medium-sized airports, which have annual traffic between 1 and 10 million passengers, with an average growth rate of only 3.7% at the European level.
With its 21% increase, Chișinău Airport ranks among the fastest-growing airports in this category in Europe, alongside those in Bratislava, Skopje, Trapani, and Varna.
The results for 2026 reaffirm the positive trend established the previous year. In 2025, Chișinău Airport surpassed the five million passenger mark for the first time, finishing the year with over six million travellers.
In the ACI EUROPE ranking for 2025, the “Eugen Doga” International Airport achieved first place in its segment for growth rate, posting an impressive 46.8% increase.
The rapid expansion of traffic enhances the connectivity of the Republic of Moldova and invigorates the local aviation market. However, this accelerated growth also exerts pressure on the airport's operational capacity, necessitating the expansion and modernization of infrastructure to meet new demands.
