"Diomid Gherman" Institute will be rehabilitated with a 2 million euro investment

Block No. 2 of the Institute of Neurology and Neurosurgery "Diomid Gherman" will undergo energy rehabilitation as part of a project funded by the European Union, the European Investment Bank (EIB), and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). A contract for the execution of the works, valued at approximately 2 million euros, was signed with a partnership of two companies—one from the Republic of Moldova and the other from Romania.

The projects are part of the "Energy Efficiency in the Republic of Moldova" initiative, implemented by the Consolidated Unit for the Implementation and Monitoring of Energy Projects (UCIPE) under the guidance of the Government and the Ministry of Energy.

These interventions include several measures to improve the energy performance of buildings while enhancing conditions for patients and medical staff.

According to UCIPE, the work will involve "thermal insulation of the building envelope," as well as the replacement of exterior joinery with energy-efficient windows and doors. Additionally, the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, along with both interior and exterior lighting, will be modernized.

Another significant aspect of the project is the installation of a 40 kW photovoltaic system.

These interventions aim to reduce energy consumption and operational costs, increase comfort, and enhance the overall conditions of the buildings in accordance with European standards.

UCIPE Director Ruslan Surugiu stated that investments in energy efficiency have a direct impact on individuals and the conditions under which public buildings are utilized.

"Thanks to the support of the authorities and development partners, the 'Energy Efficiency in the Republic of Moldova' Project offers solutions that will contribute to reducing energy consumption and operational costs, as well as extending the lifespan of buildings," said Ruslan Surugiu.

He emphasized that the energy rehabilitation efforts will benefit both patients and medical staff.

"Behind every investment in energy efficiency are the people. These improvements will create better conditions for patients and medical staff and facilitate more efficient and sustainable building operations. This is the outcome we aim for through this project," added the UCIPE director.

The "Energy Efficiency in the Republic of Moldova" Project is one of the largest national initiatives aimed at improving the energy efficiency of public buildings. It plans for the energy rehabilitation of 10 nationally significant medical facilities.

The implementation of this project is being carried out by UCIPE, under the auspices of the Government of the Republic of Moldova and the Ministry of Energy, with funding from the European Union, the European Investment Bank (EIB), and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).
