Nicu Popescu, on the expulsion of an official of the Moldovan Embassy in Moscow: "Russian Federation continues hostile actions towards the Republic of Moldova"

The decision to expel an employee of the Moldovan Embassy in Moscow is a continuation of the hostile actions that the Russian Federation has been taking over time towards our country. The statement was made by Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Nicu Popescu at a briefing.

"For many years, actually since the independence of our country, the Russian Federation has resorted to hostile policies towards the Republic of Moldova, towards our citizens, towards our economy, towards our independence, by supporting separatism, by supporting and maintaining an illegal military presence on the territory of our country, by introducing embargoes on Moldovan products, on wines, vegetables and fruits. And here, in this context, the Russian Federation continues these hostile measures, which negatively affect the citizens of the Republic of Moldova", said Nicu Popescu.

He noted that last week, following hostile actions by the Russian Federation towards the Republic of Moldova, a representative of the Russian Embassy in Chisinau was declared persona non grata.

On Tuesday 25 April, the Moldovan ambassador to Moscow was summoned to the Russian Foreign Ministry, where he was told of the decision to expel an embassy official in response to Chisinau's actions.

On 17 April, several foreign citizens were banned from entering the Republic of Moldova on the grounds that they did not meet the conditions for crossing the state border. Among them was the leader of the Republic of Tatarstan in the Russian Federation, Rustam Minnihanov, who was due to attend a congress in Comrat.

And on 19 April, an employee of the Russian Embassy in Chisinau was forced to leave the territory of the Republic of Moldova after being declared persona non grata on Wednesday 19 April.
