Grants up to 1.2 million lei for 12 families in Moldova to build passive houses
The Republic of Moldova will announce a call for applications to select 12 beneficiaries who will receive grants of up to 1.2 million lei each to build passive houses. This non-refundable financial support will be provided by the governments of Denmark and Germany.
The Secretary of State at the Ministry of Energy, Vitalie Mîța, said that although only a small number of beneficiaries exist, the authorities plan to introduce the concept of passive houses and the necessary technologies to the market.
“A passive house is one that consumes very little energy. We understand that, in times of crisis, we must focus our efforts on reducing the Republic of Moldova's dependence on energy resources. In crisis situations, we often worry about electricity and natural gas—where to buy them, how much to purchase, and whether we will have enough to last through the winter. However, the primary measure we should consider is reducing consumption. By doing so, we not only lower household bills but also create more comfortable homes and improve the country’s energy resilience,” Mîța explained during the "Bună Dimineața" show on Moldova 1.
According to Mîța, the concept of a passive house serves as a benchmark and includes a set of modern measures for energy efficiency.
“We're discussing high-quality thermal insulation for walls, as well as thermal barriers. It’s essential to ensure tightness so outside air doesn’t penetrate; mechanical ventilation recovers heat. This means that the heat generated by people and household appliances is utilized to its fullest, allowing the house to consume less than 15 kWh per square meter per year,” Mîța said.
The 12 beneficiaries of this initiative will be selected through a file competition. Interested citizens are encouraged to follow the official pages of the Ministry of Energy and the National Center for Sustainable Energy (CNED) for updates on the official launch of the application process.
