LIVE // Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu and the Foreign Ministers of the Nordic Baltic 8 hold a press conference at the State Residence

"This event is part of our efforts and desire to deepen cooperation between our countries, both bilaterally and in the context of accession to the European Union. We, as a people, are part of the EU and together we will bring the Republic of Moldova into the European Union", said Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu at the beginning of the press conference, held together with his counterparts from the NB8 format.

Nicu Popescu said he had discussed with his NB8 counterparts the challenges caused by Russia's brutal aggression against Ukraine.

"We expressed our support for Ukraine and the Ukrainian people, but also our commitment to peace in the region. We all unanimously condemn Russia's illegal invasion and call for the restoration of Ukraine's territorial integrity," the official said.

He noted that the Republic of Moldova has to face several threats and negative consequences of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, such as hybrid threats and attempts to destabilise the security situation.

The Nordic Baltic 8 format includes Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland and Iceland. The Nordic Baltic community was formed in 1992 and is one of the three main communities in Northern Europe.

In recent years, the Baltic and Nordic countries have developed a coherent network of cooperation activities in the political, military, economic, cultural and environmental fields.
