Moldovan judoka Denis Vieru secured the bronze medal in the men's under-66 kilogram category at the Budapest Grand Slam on Friday after defeating Azerbaijan's Nizami Imranov in the decisive contest.

Consecutive podium finishes

The victory marks Vieru's second major international medal in recent weeks, following his silver medal finish in August at the Lima Grand Prix in Peru. The Olympic competitor maintained tactical composure throughout the qualifying rounds before asserting control in the bronze medal playoff.

Moldova's eight-athlete delegation

Moldova fielded eight competitors at the Budapest tournament, scheduled from September 11 to 13. The national lineup comprises seven male judokas and one female athlete aiming for vital Olympic qualification ranking points.
