IMF disburses 98 million for Moldova

The Republic of Moldova can access about $96 million from the International Monetary Fund, after the IMF's board of executive directors completed its third review of the programme. The money will be disbursed as budget support, an IMF press release said.

According to the source, the situation in the Republic of Moldova remains precarious, due to the war unleashed by Russia in Ukraine and its security consequences, as well as high food and energy prices. However, the IMF expects a modest recovery of the economy in 2023. Inflation remains high, but continues to fall rapidly, the release adds.

The Republic of Moldova signed a programme with the Fund in December 2021 for a period of 40 months, and in May last year the amount was increased to about $800 million.
