Violeta Zabulica-Diordiev launches art album in Chisinau

Visual artist Violeta Zabulica-Diordiev launched her comprehensive retrospective art album, "Godot's Dream," at the National Museum of Art of Moldova in Chișinău, showcasing easel graphics and book illustrations.

The publication shares its title with the artist's solo exhibition held two years ago. The volume was released under the National Book Publishing Programme with financial backing from Moldova's Ministry of Culture.

A lifetime dedicated to visual storytelling

The album highlights easel graphics and illustrations, genres in which Zabulica-Diordiev has earned national and international acclaim. Over her career, she has illustrated more than 100 books from Moldovan and world literature.

“The release of an album is the most important milestone in an artist’s career, and it brought me immense joy—especially as it was a complete surprise,” said Violeta Zabulica-Diordiev, crediting writer Claudia Partole with initiating the project.

Partole praised the artist's distinct visual vocabulary, noting that gathering an artist's portfolio into a permanent volume is vital for cultural memory. “What defines Violeta is her ability to craft vivid characters and modern myths; she is extraordinary,” Partole said.

Philosophical depth and international recognition

Cultural critics highlighted the complex intellectual foundations of her artwork. “It is a magnificent album with philosophical, conceptual, and social depth, drawing parallels to both 16th-century master Pieter Bruegel and Samuel Beckett,” noted writer Iulian Ciocan.

Graphic artist Alexei Colâbneac, who previously mentored Zabulica-Diordiev, underscored her erudition and standing as a three-time laureate at major international children's book forums.
