Russian Ambassador to our country will be summoned again to the Foreign Ministry

The Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Moldova, Oleg Vasnetsov, will be summoned again to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, the Chisinau-based institution announces. This time, the diplomat will be asked to explain the statements made by the Russian Security Council's Deputy Chairman, Dmitry Medvedev.

"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration will not comment on the absolutely unacceptable language of the statements made today by some Russian officials, but we would like to point out that the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Moldova, Oleg Vasnetsov, will be summoned to the ministry to be asked for explanations on the statements concerning our country," MFAEI said.

Medvedev said that "the Republic of Moldova no longer exists as a country because it has been 'sold' to Romania by the pro-Western government". Moreover, he said that Russian officials have no plans to come to our country.

Medvedev's comments came after Prime Minister Dorin Recean announced yesterday on a TV8 broadcast that several Russian citizens, including Vladimir Putin, are undesirable persons in Moldova. The Prime Minister said that the list of those banned from entering our country is not public and does not intend to make it public, adding that for many of the people included in it, the very existence of this document and their presence there may come as a surprise.

On 24 April, several foreign citizens were banned from entering the Republic of Moldova on the grounds that they did not meet the conditions for authorisation to cross the state border. Among them was the leader of the Republic of Tatarstan in the Russian Federation, Rustam Minnihanov, who was due to attend a congress in Comrat. In this regard, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration (MFAEI) summoned the Ambassador of the Russian Federation in Chisinau, Oleg Vasnetsov. He was informed about the inappropriate behaviour of two Russian diplomats towards the Moldovan authorities.

In response, Moldova's ambassador to the Russian Federation, Lilian Darii, was summoned to the Russian Foreign Ministry. In addition, the head of the Moldovan diplomatic mission has been informed that the Russian Federation will block the entry of some officials into the country.

Interior Minister Ana Revenco and several members of the parliamentary majority have been banned from entering Russia. Our country's consul in Moscow has been expelled.
