42 students receive merit scholarships, up to 6,230 lei/month
In the Republic of Moldova, 42 students are being rewarded for their achievements and hard work with state-awarded merit scholarships. Twelve of them will receive the Republic Scholarship, while another 30 will receive the Government Scholarship. Moldova 1 TV presents the stories of two young people who turned perseverance and hard work into an achievement they are proud of.
To qualify for the Republic Scholarship, students must maintain a grade point average above 9 and distinguish themselves through publications, scientific articles, conference participation, and extracurricular activities.
At 21, Ionela Cheptene is a fourth-year student at the Faculty of Law of the "Ștefan cel Mare" Academy. With a GPA of 9.53, she is among the 12 students selected to receive the Republic Scholarship.
"For me, it wasn't all that difficult, simply because this is a profession close to my heart—I really enjoy it. Considering that we are students without other sources of income, this serves as a real source of motivation," said Ionela Cheptene.
"She has always demonstrated commitment and initiative. She is active in every respect—both in sports and in other extracurricular activities. More students should be encouraged to apply for such scholarships," noted Valentina Rusu, a teaching assistant at the "Ștefan cel Mare" Academy.
Another scholarship recipient, 20-year-old Victor Babcinețchi, is a second-year student at the Faculty of Social Assistance at "Ion Creangă" State Pedagogical University. He will receive the government scholarship.
"I view both the academic aspect and the aspect of active involvement as quite important. We certainly need to strike a balance and combine them all. I intend to manage this money wisely and set it aside for a specific goal," the student said.
Of the five students from the same faculty who applied for the Government Scholarship, only Victor met all the necessary requirements.
"This merit scholarship entails much more than just academic excellence or performing well in one's studies. From day one—right from his first year and admission—he stood out more than others through his presence and his active involvement," stated Mariana Vîrlan, Dean of the Faculty of Social Assistance at "Ion Creangă" State Pedagogical University.
As of September 1st, merit scholarships have been increased by 40%. The Republic Scholarship rose by 1,780 lei, reaching 6,230 lei. The President of the Republic of Moldova Scholarship increased from 4,045 to 5,665 lei, while the Government Scholarship went from 3,710 to 5,195 lei.
