Moldova closes northern airspace as three drones enter
Moldovan authorities shut northern airspace on Thursday after three unmanned aerial vehicles illegally crossed the border from Ukraine during overnight Russian bombardment, the Ministry of Defense said.
Border Police units first spotted an unidentified craft at 05:21 entering near the village of Vasilcău in the Soroca district from Velika Kisnitsya in Ukraine’s Vinnytsia region. The drone exited national airspace shortly afterward.
Successive Incursions Across Northern Districts
A second aircraft breached the state border at 06:14 near Larga in the Briceni district, flying in from Kelmentsi in Ukraine’s Chernivtsi region. Radar systems tracked the object leaving national airspace two minutes later.
A third craft crossed at 06:35 from Prydnistrianske in the Vinnytsia region toward Volovița in Soroca. Local residents later reported sighting the low-flying drone between 06:45 and 07:00 along a corridor spanning Gura Căinarului, Lunga, Băhrinești, and Gura Camencii in the Florești district.
Civil aviation and defense authorities closed northern airspace to civilian traffic as a precautionary safety measure while military teams continue to monitor national boundaries.
