Over 200 old photographs from Cosăuți, digitized and displayed in the village center
Over 200 old photographs from the village of Cosăuți, Soroca District, were scanned and digitized as part of the "Blue Frame – Photographic Heritage and Community Memory" project. An exhibition featuring the collected images was unveiled in the village center.
The photographs were collected in July, when project members spent a week visiting more than 20 families in the village of Cosăuți. Residents shared images from their family albums capturing locals, events, and moments from the community's life over the years.
"We are delighted to open the 'Blue Frame' (Rama Albastră) exhibition of vintage photography. It is more than just an exhibition; it is a homecoming, a meeting with our grandparents and parents, and a reunion with people we may never have met but about whom we have heard stories. It is a window into the Cosăuți of yesteryear. An old photograph is a testament. The 'Blue Frame' project gave us the chance to discover these stories and bring them out of people's homes and into the public sphere, so they can be seen, known, and passed on," said Aurica Osaciuc, director of the Cosăuți village museum.
According to Aurica Osaciuc, vintage photographs preserve not only the faces of those who lived in the past but also images of their way of life, traditions, and customs. Through these photographs, one can also trace the community's evolution over time.
"While leafing through old photo albums for this project, we scanned and digitized over 200 photographs collected from the village," the Cosăuți museum director said for Radio Moldova. "We spent a week in the village of Cosăuți last July. We visited over 20 families in the village. We scanned and restored photographs, and the project is organizing five exhibitions—one of which is taking place in Cosăuți, with three more yet to be held. Our goal is to preserve photographic heritage and document the lives of our parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents. We have already collected over 15,000 photographs from across the Republic of Moldova and visited nearly 60 localities," stated Victor Organ, founder of the "Rama Albastră" (Blue Frame) project.
The "Rama Albastră" project aims to preserve such images and make them accessible to the public. Photographs selected from family albums are digitized and added to a collection that documents the lives of people from times past across various localities in the Republic of Moldova.
The exhibition in Cosăuți is organized as part of the "Rama Albastră – Photographic Heritage and Community Memory" project, funded by the Ministry of Culture and implemented by the "Rama Albastră" Public Association.
